Week 7 Social Networks

What is a 'social network'?

I set up my new facebook identity here: Susi B Art
and of course I'm on twitter @susibart

I also connected Blogger to my flavors page @ http://flavors.me/!
  visit my page @ - http://flavors.me/susibart

my new flavors.me page!

i found flavors.me and thought it would be a good place to keep a record of all my networks in one place - i was excited to set up my 'new directory' page, but soon found out it was limited! You only get to 'add' about 4 entries or links and if you want more there is a yearly fee for unlimited use. it is only $20/year, so it is very reasonable, but for now i am just looking!

i have also been reading up on Blogging Tips and how to connect your Blogger posts to Facebook, etc. (thanks Shell!) It is still a bit complicated and i can only find directions for posting to a 'fan page' on facebook as opposed to a personal page, [see how to set up a fan page here] but a good place to start investigating if your are interested is to browse the blogger 'getting started guide' or have a look at  blogger tips and tricks.com  or wisnet.com
and if you're a visual learner and prefer to see the steps on video then have a look here: http://buzz.blogger.com/2008/01/blogger-help-videos.html

if you haven't heard about twitter yet, don't worry, you will!

STREAT

"We are a values-based social enterprise that sees profit as a means to an end."

What's social enterprise?

These days the line between public, private, and non-profit are beginning to blur. Social enterprise is one of the new ways that this is happening.

Definition

The Skoll Centre for Social Enterprise, one of the world's leading authorities on the topic, defines social enterprise this way:
Social entrepreneurship is about innovative, market-oriented approaches underpinned by a passion for social equity and environmental sustainability. Ultimately, social entrepreneurship is aimed at transformational systems change that tackles the root causes of poverty, marginalization, environmental deterioration and accompanying loss of human dignity.
The key concepts of social entrepreneurship are innovation, market orientation and systems change

Our business model

STREAT is a hybrid organisation – or social enterprise – that brings about social change through market-focussed business activities.
In effect, STREAT is three organisations rolled into one and underpinned by sound governance structures. STREAT is a:
  • Social support provider ensuring holistic care and well‐being to trainees within its programs;
  • Training provider giving internationally recognised vocational training in hospitality;
  • Foodservice business that provides on‐the‐job training and work experience for trainees, while generating the income to finance the organisation’s activities.
STREAT's business model is designed to scale and the organisation expects to have five sites within Melbourne's CBD over the coming couple of years.
